Local RON transfers supported by ZEN

Question

What local transfers for RON (Romanian Leu) does ZEN support? What is TRANSFOND transfer?

Answer

Please note

Local accounts in RON are temporarily not created for new accounts. We are aware of this and are working on a fix. We will provide an update as soon as we have one. In the meantime, please use the account top-ups, SEPA EUR, SWIFT transfers, or Card transfers to receive funds to your ZEN account. We apologize for the inconvenience.

ZEN supports local RON transfers via the TRANSFOND system. TRANSFOND incoming and outgoing transfers are available if:

  • Individual client: your identity document is issued by Romania and your residence country is in Romania.
  • Business client: your company registration country is Romania.

If your account has been verified with another document, not listed above, the Romanian account number and TRANSFOND transfers will not be available. If you have the required documents and citizenship, you can update the data on your account.

The Romanian banking community granted TRANSFOND the role of an interbank payment processor, with the main mission of implementing the Electronic Payment System. TRANSFOND lets Romanians send and receive funds with lower fees and faster processing time than standard SWIFT transfers. ZEN supports standard and instant TRANSFOND transfers, and the transfer type depends on the beneficiary bank.

TRANSFOND is automatically chosen as the transfer type when ordering a RON transfer in the ZEN app. To see your local RON account number for incoming TRANSFOND transfers from Romanian banks to ZEN, please see this article.

Information

The maximum transfer amount for a TRANSFOND transaction is 50000 RON. Please note that transfers from ZEN to the National Agency for Fiscal Administration of Romania (Agenția Națională de Administrare Fiscală) and other institutions related to the Romanian Ministry of Finance are currently not possible.
