Choosing currency when paying with Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC)

Question

What is a Dynamic Currency Conversion? Why did the store ask me to choose a currency I want to pay in?

Answer

Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) is a service offered by some merchants and ATMs that allows you to convert a transaction into your home currency at the point of sale, instead of in the local currency where the transaction takes place.

The currency is exchanged at the rate used by the merchant or an ATM, not at attractive ZEN rates, which means you pay more for a currency exchange. To avoid additional DCC costs, always choose the local currency of the country you are currently in (e.g. PLN in Poland, EUR in Germany, etc.). This way, you will avoid an unfavorable currency conversion.

Before making each transaction, information about the costs and the exchange rate should be displayed on the ATM or Point of Sale screen. If the information was not displayed and the fee was charged, please contact us to resolve the matter.
