If an eligible rental car is damaged or stolen and the rental company charges you an excess, you can submit a Rental Car Excess Cover claim.
Before starting your claim, keep the rental agreement, proof of the excess you paid, and documents showing what happened. You’ll also need proof that both the rental car and your eligible accommodation were paid in full with your ZEN card.
Rental Car Excess Cover is provided by Chubb, a global insurance company, and is available with selected ZEN.COM subscription plans for residents of Poland, Czechia, Hungary, Romania, and Lithuania.
Before you make a claim
Your rental can qualify when it was part of an eligible trip and:
- you stayed for at least 2 nights in paid accommodation
- the accommodation was paid in full with your ZEN card
- the rental car was paid in full with your ZEN card
- you rented the vehicle from a professional rental agency
- your name was listed as a driver on the rental agreement
- the total rental period was 31 days or less
- you rented only one vehicle at a time
- the rental agreement showed the applicable excess
- a vehicle condition report or inventory was completed when you collected and returned the rental car
Peer-to-peer rentals, such as rentals through Getaround, are not covered.
What to do if the rental car is damaged

What to do if the rental car is stolen or vandalized

- Report the theft or vandalism to the relevant authorities within 48 hours.
- Make sure the report includes:
- the circumstances of the incident
- details of the rental vehicle, such as its make and model
- Keep the police or authority report.
- Keep proof showing the excess charged by the rental company.
- Submit your claim to Chubb through the ZEN.COM app.
How to submit your claim
- Log in to the ZEN.COM app and select "Zenefits" from the bottom menu.
- Select "Rental Car Excess Cover" and open the Chubb claim portal.
- Describe what happened and upload the requested documents.
- Submit your claim.
You can then follow the claim in the Chubb portal and provide additional documents if Chubb asks for them.
What documents should you keep?
Depending on what happened, Chubb may need documents such as:
- your rental agreement
- proof that you were listed as a driver
- proof that you paid the excess
- vehicle condition reports from before and after the rental
- a damage report
- a police or authority report for theft or vandalism
- receipts for eligible towing or immobilization costs
- other documents related to the incident or rental
Keeping these documents can help Chubb review your claim without needing to ask you for information you already received from the rental company.
Up to two claims per ZEN card per calendar year can be reimbursed, in the order they occur.
Rental Car Excess Cover reimburses eligible excess costs. It does not reimburse insurance premiums you paid to the rental company.
