Missed Departure can help you recover eligible prepaid travel and accommodation costs if a qualifying delay lasts at least 24 hours and you decide to abandon your trip abroad.
Missed Departure is part of Travel Delay Cover, provided by Chubb, a global insurance company, and is available with selected ZEN.COM subscription plans for residents of Poland, Czechia, Hungary, Romania, and Lithuania.
What costs can Missed Departure cover?
You may be able to claim eligible unused costs for:
- travel
- accommodation
The cover applies to costs you’ve already paid or are contractually required to pay, as long as you cannot recover them from an airline, hotel, tour operator, or another provider.
When does Missed Departure apply?
Your Missed Departure claim may qualify when:
- the qualifying delay lasts at least 24 hours
- you decide to abandon your trip abroad because of the delay
- your journey begins and ends in your country of domicile
- you follow the conditions of your travel agent, tour operator, and transport provider
- you allow enough time to reach the point where your journey starts
- the unused costs cannot be recovered from an airline, hotel, tour operator, or another provider
You’ll also need written confirmation showing how long the delay lasted and why it happened.
When does Missed Departure not apply?
Missed Departure does not cover every abandoned trip.
Examples include:
- a delay lasting less than 24 hours
- costs that can be recovered from an airline, hotel, tour operator, or another provider
- a journey that does not begin and end in your country of domicile
- a delay caused because you did not allow enough time for your journey
- a strike that had already started or been announced before you booked
- transport withdrawn from service by a civil aviation, port, or similar authority
- trip cancellation caused by volcanic ash
- travel against the advice or restrictions of the relevant national or local authorities
Full conditions, limits, and exclusions are available in the Travel and Lifestyle Benefits Terms.
What should I keep if I want to make a claim?
Keep:
- your travel booking and itinerary
- written confirmation showing how long the delay lasted and why it happened
- proof of the unused travel or accommodation costs
- documents showing that these costs cannot be recovered from an airline, hotel, tour operator, or another provider
